Light pollution is estimated from map data. This does not assess current weather, nearby buildings or individual lights.

If the Moon is in view, take a moment to find the dark patches on its bright surface. You might see a face, or simply a pattern of light and shade. Astronomers call these darker plains the lunar seas.

But no waves roll across them. Long ago, lava rose from inside the Moon, flooded vast basins, and cooled into dark rock. Those quiet markings are traces of a world that was once alive with volcanic activity.

When the Moon looks half lit, follow the boundary between daylight and darkness. Sunlight arriving at a low angle casts long shadows. Through a telescope, you can see the edges of craters and the outlines of mountains.

You do not need to learn their names tonight. Choose one dark patch, and remember its shape. The next time you look up at the Moon, a little part of that distant landscape will already feel familiar.

Before you head outside

New to the night sky?

Can I use it if I know little about astronomy?

Choose a suggestion on the Tonight screen and tap Find. Follow the guidance to look around the sky, and hear the object’s story with Plus narration.

Will I always be able to see a suggested object?

Suggestions use astronomical observing conditions such as location, time, object brightness and light pollution. Clouds, nearby lights, buildings and your equipment may prevent you from seeing an object. Weather forecasts are not provided.

Can I use it offline?

Celestial positions are calculated on your device. AI speech is synthesized locally after downloading its model. Maps, place search, voice setup, some catalog updates and subscription checks may need an internet connection. If the system removes the model, you will need to download it again.

Which iPhones are supported?

The app is being prepared for iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later. AI speech supports iPhone X and later; iPhone 12 Pro-class devices or newer are recommended. Voice preparation time depends on device performance and condition.

What is free, and what does Plus include?

The sky map, search, Tonight suggestions, basic direction guidance, light-pollution map and night mode are free. In South Korea, Plus costs KRW 3,900 monthly or KRW 29,000 annually. Eligible users in Korea can get the first year for KRW 19,000, then renew automatically at KRW 29,000 per year. The offer runs through December 31, 2026; the purchase screen determines eligibility. Plus includes narration and 3D space travel. Without a subscription, you can optionally finish a rewarded ad to unlock narration for that object until midnight local time. Prices and offers vary by storefront; check your App Store purchase screen for the applicable price and conditions.
